The fine art of proofreading

For your manuscript’s final polish, you have to proofread it as perfectly as possible. Proofreading is the thankless component of writing, and requires its own skill set.

Sustained, single-minded focus produces the best proofreading, but this is surprisingly difficult. People in all walks of life: doctors, nurses, air-traffic controllers, musicians, dancers, actors, and many others struggle to stay focused, especially at critical moments.

Maybe nobody’s life depends on the quality of your proofreading, but your writing needs it.
